What is Jasprit Bumrah's talent? Apparently, according to fast bowling great Ian Bishop, PhD in fast bowling. The legendary former West Indies pacer is so impressed with Bumrah's consistency that he wants to give the Indian pacer a degree in the craft.
With 13 wickets in 7 matches, Bumrah is the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2024 and holds the Purple Cap. With 2 three-wicket hauls and a five-wicket haul, Bumrah is virtually unplayable, prompting pundits to come up with unique ways to congratulate India quickly.
Bishop's praise of a million caught the attention after Bumrah chased down Punjab Kings' 193 and finished with 3/21 in 4 overs. Gerald Coetzee picked an equally impressive 3/32 but Bumrah, as usual, was in a league of his own. To be fair, it's hard to think of any bowler in the modern era to get this Ph. other than Bumrah.
He's a great communicator, knowledgeable and articulate. Then I'd love to have him give bowling lectures to young aspiring seam bowlers across the country.
Bumrah was once called the genius of the generation. And rightly so. Not that he wasn't effective earlier, but Bumrah has been unstoppable since returning from a late-career stress fracture, which required surgery. He is more threatening and intimidating than ever.
In fact, Bumrah has been the recipient of another high praise from Michael Vaughan when he ranked him above some of the best he has faced – the likes of Wasim Akram and Glenn McGrath.

"I think Jasprit Bumrah... if you ask the world to pick a fast bowler for all conditions in all formats, he'll be on the team sheet. He's incredible. There are some world-class bowlers. New Zealand's Trent Boult.
The team. Jimmy Anderson, Stuart Broad. , [Josh] Hazlewood, Starc is very good with batsmen that give him some pace, accuracy, reverse swing, conventional swing, variation, bouncer… you name it Bumrah, Bearbiceps said on their YouTube channel.
Asked to rate Bumrah on the likes of Wasim Akram, Walker Younis and Glenn McGrath, Vaughan said: "I would say he wouldn't be someone I'd want to face all those names. He's like a bowling machine. His pace doesn't change - Look, Wasim Akram has a talent, if there's any pace. If there's room to hit, he can contain you, limit you, study your technique, but I think Bumrah is at the top of that list."
