Paris police launched a special operation at the Iranian consulate on Friday after receiving reports of a man wielding a grenade and wearing an explosive vest.
The man was reportedly first seen outside the consulate premises. Images circulated on French television and social media showed a heavy police presence around the building.
As the standoff began, reports emerged that the man had threatened to blow himself up at the consulate. French police cordoned off the area and beefed up security to neutralize the threat.
A police source later confirmed to Reuters that the suspect had been arrested. Witnesses reported seeing the man carrying a grenade and an explosive vest, raising concerns about a possible terrorist attack. Authorities have not released the motive behind the man's actions.
Paris transport company RATP on X, formerly Twitter, said traffic was suspended on two metro lines that transit through stops near the consulate.
